EMS EVOLUTION

INSPIRED FROM 1 HOUR CONTINUOUS JAM WITH ROBIN FOX, DAVID CHESWORTH, MYSELF and 4 EMS SYNTHESISERs and TRANSAUDIO PROCASE 6.

I attended the EMS & Pin-board Patching Workshop at MESS late in 2017, Robin Fox was the instructor and the only other person in the class was David Chesworth! Amazing! After an introduction to the patching technique via pin-board we began to experiment with the Transaudio and 4 EMS machines. (The Putney (VCS3), The Synthi (VCS 3) II, Synthi A & Synthi AKS)

After working individually on each machine and getting some fantastic sounds I suggested to Robin that we mix them all together...so that's what we did!

For over an hour the three of us experimented and improvised an orchestra of EMS synths.

This is a work in progress, using the methodology of musique concrète.

These are early experiments with Spear. Using a combination of pure tones and field recordings of a cicada. Manipulating partials within Spear to create new sounds.
